Mazda has not unveiled any plans to make a hybrid version of their widely popular CX5 model.
A hybrid CX5 would make great sense for the Japanese car manufacturer as it would allow them to compete with rivals such as Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai.
The CX5 currently competes with the likes of the Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV, and Hyundai Tucson. All three of these models from competing manufacturers are offered with an option for Hybrid powertrain.

Why should Mazda manufacture a Hybrid CX5?
There are a couple of key reasons why Mazda needs to get on their game and manufacture a hybrid version of their popular SUV.
- They need to remain competitive within the SUV space, which has become the most popular type of car in a lot of places. Offering a hybrid model would allow them to capture an additional segment of drivers looking to purchase brand new cars.
- They already have a proven engine and transmission. Adding a hybrid system to their current offerings shouldn’t be difficult, especially because of their partnership with Toyota.
- The CX5 already comes with impressive name recognition, like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda’s CRV. The CX5 is Mazda’s highest selling model and they should continue to drive those sells by providing additional options.
- Mazda would be contributing to a green landscape by helping decrease carbon emissions.
- Most importantly, they can boast of an increase in fuel efficiency, which plays a key role when drivers come to purchase new vehicles.
